Smart Shopping Assistant is a ChatGPT app concept for product discovery and purchase guidance. Shoppers describe what they need in plain language, the assistant narrows a broad catalogue to a few genuinely comparable options, and each recommendation arrives with the reasoning and the tradeoff behind it.

What this project explores
Conversational discovery
Filters require a shopper to already know the vocabulary. Plain language doesn't — "something for a small kitchen that won't be loud" is a usable starting point here, and unusable in a filter panel.
Choice narrowing
The assistant returns three or four candidates, not forty. A short set can actually be compared; a long one just moves the sorting work back onto the shopper.
Purchase confidence
Every recommendation states why it was chosen and what it gives up. A pick without a stated tradeoff is a guess the shopper has to verify elsewhere.

Guided shopping without rigid ecommerce friction
Shopping runs as a conversation: the shopper describes the situation, the assistant asks what it still needs, and the result is a handful of options with reasons attached — no filter panel, no endless grid.
It doesn't replace browsing. Browsing works well once a shopper knows what they're looking at. The assistant covers the part before that, where the catalogue is still undifferentiated and filters have nothing useful to act on.
